Bags of personality

A WOMAN'S handbag says so much about her personality.

So it's not hard to guess who the business-like brown and cream leather bag at the top of the page belongs to.

Now there's a bag that hints at someone with money and a keen eye for style. You could carry it to a summit meeting, confident that it will clash only slightly with everything else you're wearing.

Ring Style

Who else would risk it but Cherie Blair? The PM's wife is among celebrity women revealing their choice of bag for next Thursday's first-ever National Handbag Day. The bags, all commissioned from top designer Olivia Morris, will be auctioned on the internet at to raise money for Breast Cancer Care, of which Cherie is patron.

Cherie said: "I have lost two people close to me through breast cancer, and I know just how important support of this kind is."

The baby-pink and fuscia creation, with a gilt chain strap and, a front flap like a slice of watermelon obviously belongs to a girlie- type who thinks a lot about food presumably. So step forward and claim it, Lisa Riley, soap star and TV presenter.

Over to a larger, canvas bag, in blue with a detachable purse. Now this is a bit laddish.

You could take it anywhere - to the football, to the pub, to the shops. And yet it still has space for those essentials...like baby wipes.

"I need a bag that carries lots of stuff," admits DJ and new mother Zoe Ball.

Obviously a black satin bag covered with red silk poppies keeps glamorous company. It's just got to be the choice of Doon McKichan, co-star of TV's notorious Smack The Pony.

DOON McKICHEN "I love flowers. Our gardener is Bryan Ferry's too, you know," says the comedy star.
