Paula Abdul has told a magazine that she overcame a 12-year addiction to painkillers last year.
Not that drug addiction is a laughing matter but ... is this really big news to anyone watching "American Idol," the past few years who wondered whether a judge suddenly mumbling in Swahili and slipping into a temporary coma was part of the act?
Abdul told Ladies Home Journal for its June issue that she checked into a resort and spa in Carlsbad, where she weaned herself off medications last Thanksgiving.
Abdul says she didn't like existing the way she had been. The magazine says the 46-year-old singer-dancer had suffered for years from chronic pain caused by an unusual series of accidents.
Abdul's spokesman, Jeff Ballard, says Abdul "has moved forward in her life."
JACK BAUER IS NUTS: New York City police are investigating claims by a fashion designer who says actor Kiefer Sutherland head-butted him at a SoHo nightclub.
Maybe he thought it was the only way to detonate the nuke in the fashion designer's brain.
Jack McCollough, of the Proenza Schouler fashion house, reported the incident happened around 2 a.m. Tuesday and says he was cut on his face. McCollough claimed Sutherland, star of Fox television's "24," attacked him after an argument at the club, according to a law enforcement official who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the investigation is ongoing.
The official said detectives are planning to interview Sutherland, and possibly actress Brooke Shields, who may have witnessed the incident. Reports say Sutherland accused McCollough of bumping Shields, which witnesses are refuting, according to People.com
Sutherland served 48 days in jail last year on a drunken driving charge. He was sentenced to 30 days, as well as 18 days for violating probation in a 2004 drunken driving arrest.
FAWCETT NOT DOING WELL: Cancer sufferer Farrah Fawcett is pinning all hopes of survival on one last "miracle" treatment, according to her on/off partner Ryan O'Neal.
The "Charlie's Angels" star has been battling anal cancer for two years and was recently hospitalized for internal bleeding not directly related to her illness. Treatment has left Fawcett so weak she spends her days in bed and can barely muster up the strength to talk, said People magazine.
She has been seeking alternative treatment for the deadly disease in Germany, and actor O'Neal reveals she will undergo one more operation in a last-ditch attempt to find a cure.
He says, LV Bracelet "(It's) a last gasp. There was always a courage there. I fell in love with her all over again because of how she handled this."
Fawcett has no idea her troubled son Redmond is in jail on new drug charges, because O'Neal doesn't want to burden her with unnecessary stress. Redmond, 24, was held behind bars in California last month after his latest arrest, but was granted special permission to leave his Los Angeles cell for several hours on April 25 to see his sick mother. He was still wearing a jail jumpsuit and shackles around his feet as he visited Fawcett -- but Ryan claims the actress was so ill she was unaware of his attire and the police presence.
Ryan admits Redmond was so distraught at the sight of his weak mother, he felt it best to lie to him about her deteriorating health.
