WOMEN are being warned to be on their guard after a thief stole a purse and mobile from a handbag on Friday.
PendantInsp Gary Stewart is advising people to follow basic security,such as keeping handbags in front of the body. The theft happened on market day in Stamford town centre. Police had no further details on location and the time.
Insp Stewart, who is based in Stamford Police Station, said: "Ladies, please look after your purses.
"Don't put your handbags in your shopping trolley. People think that it will never happen to them but clearly it does happen."

He is also warning people to be careful when tapping in their pin numbers in shops.
Insp Stewart says thieves follow people and watch them use their pin numbers before snatching the bag.
He said: "To a thief it is their full time job."
